A short answer that is right beats a long answer that is thorough

Length has become a proxy for effort, and effort has become a proxy for quality. Neither swap holds up. A reader who asks a question usually wants the one sentence that settles it, not a tour of everything adjacent.

Thoroughness is a cost the writer pushes onto the reader. Every extra paragraph is another place to get lost, another caveat to weigh, another chance to bury the point. Being right in twelve words takes more work than being complete in four hundred, which is exactly why it is rarer.

If you cannot say it short, you probably have not decided what you think yet.
